About

Hello there.  I’m The Caveman.  Welcome to my blog.  This is a place for anyone who wants to be a little happier in their lives.

About my blog

My blog is sort of about money and financial independence (…OK FIRE if you must). But it’s not really about that – because that’s not really what life’s about. My blog is about more than money. Its about health, and relationships, and sleep, and books, and hobbies. In short it’s about everything to do with being happy, or at least my journey to becoming happier.

About me

I’m in my 40s and live in the English Home Counties with the Cavewoman and my two Cavechildren.  In many ways I am extraordinarily ordinary.   I get on a train every morning in a suit and commute to work as a middle manager in an office in London…but not one of those banking, or accounting, or legal, or programming high flying jobs, think more Wernham Hogg than Goldman Sachs.  Unlike a lot of people in this space I rather enjoy my job, but I would like to have the choice as to whether I do it or not.

The lightbulb moment for me was the realisation that I could choose.  I could choose how to spend my money.  I could choose how I passed my time.  In fact I could choose how I lived my life and whether or not to stay in the cave.  Realising that was what has led to this blog as I document how I am trying to honour that realisation.

About you

While my goal is to get out of the cave it’s also to be happy while going on that journey.  So if you’re here looking for extreme saving or personal finance tips, sorry, that’s not what this  blog is about.  In fact personal financial advice generally really isn’t me.

If, however, you are interested in my thoughts on how to lead a healthier, more balanced, life.  On how to be a better spouse, parent, relation or friend. On how to manage money so it doesn’t manage you.  In short on how to lead a happier life, then my friends you have come to the right place.

Before we go on it’s worth you having a look at my Disclaimer and Privacy Policy. No rush, I’ll wait.

But having done that, pull a rock up near the fire, pour yourself a brew, and let’s begin.

Where to start

Obviously feel free to wander around wherever you like.  But, if you’re wondering where to go next I’ve been featured in places such as Rockstar Finance, Campfire Finance and FIREHub EU so you start with some of the posts they’ve liked.
